Depending upon your individual circumstance, your prosthetic or orthotic care will be funded through one of the following funding options.
NDIS
The National Disability Insurance Scheme provides support to Australian citizens, permanent residents, or Protected Special Category Visa holders under the age of 65 living in Australia who have a disability caused by a permanent impairment. If you are eligible, the scheme will provide funding towards supports considered reasonable and necessary to achieve your NDIS stated goals. Read more here.
Enable NSW
Enable NSW Prosthetic Limb Service is the state based funding system for residents of NSW who meet the eligibility criteria to receive prosthetic care. It is commonly used when people are linked to Health NSW care such as interim prosthetic users, and those who are not eligible under other funding bodies.
Enable NSW also provides state based funding for orthoses under specific clinical criteria and when prescribed by an eligible prescriber. Click here to access the relevant criteria.
Department of Veterans Affairs
All veterans who have lost or injured their limb as a result of injuries received while serving may have their prosthesis or orthosis funded through The Rehabilitation Appliances Program (RAP). Those with a Veteran Gold Card may receive funding for prosthesis and orthotic devices regardless of whether the loss or injury was sustained while serving. Contact DVA for more information regarding your individual circumstances.
Insurance
If your amputation or injury was the result of trauma, such as a motor vehicle or workplace accident, the insuring organisation will most likely fund your prosthesis or orthosis as part of your rehabilitation.
Most private health insurers do not allocate funding for prosthetics, but it is worth checking with your insurer if you are uncertain as they may cover partial costs.
Private Clients
Private clients are not limited by the assessments of funding bodies and are free to choose technology and materials without restriction. Our team is happy to offer consultations and advice if you are considering self-funding.
